The series paints Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky as a nervous and insecure man concealing a genius so powerful it can feel intimidating. His output includes imaginative ballets, grand symphonies, intimate quartets and forceful overtures, showing tremendous versatility. The mysteries surrounding his life and death, it suggests, help sustain his legacy.

Tchaikovsky’s release was the second of twelve, arriving on 16 November 2010 after the Mozart album and before the Beethoven album. The twelve albums came out between 2 November 2010 and 19 April 2011, typically about two weeks apart.

The “Waltz of the Flowers” is on the 100-track compilation. Each album in the run focuses on a single composer. See all releases on the albums page or return to the home page.
