Claude Debussy is described in the series as the king of French impressionist music. His layered, ornamented harmonies and intricate rhythms helped carry music from the late Romantic period into the twentieth century. People in his own day found his style provocative, whereas listeners today often treat it as soothing relaxation. This short sketch follows the series’ own summary and is not a full biography.

Debussy’s release was the seventh of twelve, arriving on 8 February 2011 after the Chopin album and before the Brahms album. The twelve albums came out between 2 November 2010 and 19 April 2011, typically about two weeks apart.

Each album in the run focuses on a single composer. See all releases on the albums page or return to the home page.
