Franz Schubert is sometimes called “the first Romantic” and is seen as the foundation stone of the Romantic era. The series laments that he was taken too early, yet notes that about 1,000 compositions from his 31 years survive. He is especially admired for the beauty of his melodies. This short sketch follows the series’ own summary and is not a full biography.

Schubert’s release was the tenth of twelve, arriving on 22 March 2011 after the Schumann album and before the Grieg album. The twelve albums came out between 2 November 2010 and 19 April 2011, typically about two weeks apart.

Each album in the run focuses on a single composer. See all releases on the albums page or return to the home page.
