Robert Schumann was a composer, a critic and an aesthete, and the series stresses how much of himself he poured into his craft. His emotional life was so intense that he spent his last two years in a mental institution. The series hears that torment in the dense, richly textured quality of his music.

Schumann’s release was the ninth of twelve, arriving on 8 March 2011 after the Brahms album and before the Schubert album. The twelve albums came out between 2 November 2010 and 19 April 2011, typically about two weeks apart.

“Träumerei” from Kinderszenen is one of the pieces on the 100-track compilation. Each album in the run focuses on a single composer. See all releases on the albums page or return to the home page.
