Antonio Vivaldi was nicknamed the “Red Priest” because of the titian hair beneath his modest wig. The series lists him among history’s most productive composers, with more than 49 operas, 90 sonatas and 500 concertos, and marvels that he managed this while working as teacher, virtuoso, impresario and priest, all while coping with asthma.

Vivaldi’s release was the fifth of twelve, arriving on 11 January 2011 after the Bach album and before the Chopin album. The twelve albums came out between 2 November 2010 and 19 April 2011, typically about two weeks apart.

Selections from “The Four Seasons” feature on the 100-track compilation. Each album in the run focuses on a single composer. See all releases on the albums page or return to the home page.
